The Campus Theatre’s 2004 Keystone Campaign
Be a part of history . . .

What is it?
This year, The Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission awarded The Campus Theatre a grant to restore the theatre’s interior and protect it from future damage. The Campus Theatre is a contributing structure to Lewisburg's Historic District on The National Registry.

What will be restored?
The project covers interior restoration of the theatre’s original Art Deco artifacts such as light fixtures, signage, paintings, murals, and glass. The project will also include exterior repair work on the roof and mortar joints to protect the interior from water damage and other weather adversities.

How much will it cost?
The project is budgeted at $110,000 with the state providing a 50/50 match of $55,000. The Degenstein Foundation has generously provided a grant for $25,000 and The Campus Theatre is now charged with raising the remaining $30,000 before work can begin.

How can I help? Two ways . . .

THE PROJECT

Paintings:
The theatre’s 7,000 square feet of original murals and paintings suffer from water damage, humidity, and smoke. The campaign will repair plaster damage and professionally clean the paintings.

Glass:
Much of the theatre’s original art deco glass (including etched glass doors) have been broken or damaged over the years. Professional restorers will use surviving glass components to restore broken or lost pieces.

Lighting:

The Campus Theatre contains some extraordinary Art Deco light fixtures. They, however, rely on obsolete 1930s lighting technology and need updating for the 21st century. Modern lighting technology will accurately replicate the original look but provide a 75% reduction in energy useage.

The bottom fixture is in the auditorium and synched with the projection system to create different lighting effects during the film.

Signage:
The Keystone Campaign will restore all of the theatre’s original signage back to working condition.
